Nokia today announced Mobile Core Early Access, a live, hosted environment that lets telecommunications providers and enterprises evaluate the software behind AI-era mobile core networks before committing to deployment. The program launched in June with a select group of 30 companies; with today’s announcement, registration is now open to the entire industry.

The significance here is less the product than the mechanism. Operators have historically had to weigh core-network upgrades on the strength of presentations and lab demonstrations, a process that extends evaluation cycles at exactly the moment when AI-native core capabilities and 5G Advanced features are arriving faster than operators can comfortably vet them. A live, end-to-end environment that pairs the network functions with radios and devices lets participants test business relevance, operational fit, and deployment considerations earlier in the decision cycle, reducing the effort required to stand up initial test environments and align stakeholders on use cases. Nokia notes a paid option for participants needing broader or deeper integration.
We are encouraged by the direction. For equipment suppliers, this kind of hands-on access compresses the gap between technology awareness and adoption and effectively lowers the cost for an operator to evaluate a competitor’s core amid the industry’s shift to AI-native networks, and it gives Nokia a vehicle for engaging customers well ahead of procurement decisions.
